The build weight with mortar per m2 for
190 x 190 x 80mm blocks is 146kgs m2 |
|
There are 25 blocks to the m2. |
|
Place no direct loads down onto the blocks
that may crack the glass. |
|
Free standing walls and infill areas like
bars or kitchen counters need a frame support at the ends
and tops to take the loads this can be timber or
a metal frame. The rules for building into these areas
are the same as for standard builds using an anchor system
see below. |
|
Fix all panels securely at the sides and
tops of openings using panels anchors see below. |
|
Allow 10mm for movement at tops and sides
of all panels larger than 1.5m2 / 5ft square approx. |
|
You can build blocks directly into small
openings without the 10mm but use reinforcement for safety.
If in doubt put it in - the cost is minimal. |
|
Allow for the 10mm movement if blocks are
against a door side or opening such as a window
it takes the vibration! |
|
Think on that they are glass
so take special care when handling. |
Panel Anchors are 600mm length metal straps
that are site bent to form a 90 degree angle and are fixed to jambs
and heads by 6mm bolts (or equivalent) i.e remove the self tap or weld parts. Opposing leg is embedded within horizontal bed or
perpendicular joints at head - minimum penetration - one and
a half blocks. Anchors are designed to pass through the reinforcing
to lock in the head.
Reinforcing is placed in every second horizontal course plus
first and last. Reinforcing stops 50mm from jambs to allow
for movement.
Expansion Material is positioned at jambs and heads only with
the detail finished to both faces by a weatherproof sealant
such as Dow Corning 797 / 794.
Glass block Spacers are available to assist build - please advise your choice of joint size with all orders.
